I got the postive pregnancy test, and then suddenly the excitement calmed and I heard just wait.
Just wait until the baby gets here.
Just wait until you lose your sleep.
Just wait until she's mobile.
Just wait until you have no time.
Most of the time, it was mothers remembering what they weren't prepared for.
But somewhere along the way, I started wondering:
Why does "just wait" almost always have to be a warning?
Because after becoming a mom, I've discovered there are so many things worth waiting for.
Just wait until she smiles at you.
Not the sleepy newborn smile that everyone thinks is just gas.
The real one.
The one where she looks at you and her whole face changes.
Nobody warned me about that.
Just wait until she starts looking for you.
One day, you'll notice her eyes following you as you walk across the room.
You'll hear someone else holding her say, "She's looking for Mom."
And theres someting almost impossible to explain about realzing that out of all the people in the room, shes looking for you.
Just wait until the ordinary moments become your favorite ones.
This might be the part that surprised me the most.
Motherhood isn't made up entirely of milestones.
It's tiny clothes in the laundry.
It's the weight of her falling asleep against you.
It's making the same silly noise because she thinks it's hilarious.
It's looking at the clock and wondering how many more 3 am wake ups are in the future.
Yet, it's looking at pictures while they are asleep because you already miss her.
There are hard days.
There are exhausting days.
There are days when bedtime cannot come soon enough.
I don't want this space to pretend those days don't exist.
I just don't want them to be the only things we warn new moms about.
That's why I created Just Wait, Mama.
I wanted there to be a corner of the internet where just wait means something different.
A place to talk honestly about motherhood without making the next milestone sound like something to dread.
A place for the little moments we don't want to forget.
A place for what surprised us, what made us laugh, what was harder than expected and what turned out to be so much better than anyone told us it would be.
I'm figuring this out as I go, too.
I'm not here as a parenting expert. I'm not here because I've discovered the secret to motherhood.
I'm just a mom that noticed that for every warning I heard about what was coming next, there was something beautiful waiting there, too.
so yes, Mama...
Just Wait.
Just wait until she reaches for you.
Just wait until you hear the belly laugh.
Just wait until you catch a glimpse of the little person she is becoming.
Just wait until an ordinary Tuesday gives you a moment you wish you could bottle up forver.
There is so much good coming.
And I think we should talk about that, too.
Welcome to Just Wait, Mama.
Because not every '"just wait" has to be a warning.
